Course Information
Description The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics).
Required Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

-There are 2 items that are ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED for the Bio 2101 lab (A&P1):

1) Lab Manual for Human Anatomy & Physiology, a Hands-on Approach* by Greene, Robinson, and Strong. 1st ed. Pearson Publishing, ISBN:978-01-354-79-391. 

2) Modified Mastering A&P Access code that goes with the lecture textbook by Amerman. 

A recommended item is the textbook that is required for the lecture course: "Human Anatomy & Physiology", 2nd ed by Erin Amerman, Pearson Publishing. If you are not taking the lecture course, any other A&P book can be used as a reference.

Additional Materials/Resources

A functioning computer with a webcam is required.  It is the student's responsibility to have both.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the general function of the endocrine system including, mechanisms of hormone action, regulation of hormone release, hormone actions, and endocrine glands, and endocrine disorders and treatments. 
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of blood composition, blood functions, blood disorders, heart anatomy and function. 
  3. Demonstrates an understanding of the location of the major arteries and veins of the vascular system as well as the function of the circulatory system.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the GI system, the structure and GI functions of the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas, and the various metabolic and nutritional processes involved in digestion.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the respiratory, lymphatic, & renal systems.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the location and function(s) of the structures of the male and female reproductive structures. 
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of reading material including relevant terminology. 
  8. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with fellow students to complete group assignments and/or cover assigned material.

Major Assignments Schedule
All pre-lab assignments are completed using information in the textbook, lab book, the lab handout, and using the Mastering A&P website. The pre-lab assignments are completed on the Mastering A&P site and are accessed by the link on the LAB course website.
The same Pearson Mastering A&P access code is used for both Lecture Pearson Mastering Assignments and Pre-Lab Pearson Mastering Assignments.

During the 1st Week of Class, the exam schedule will be posted in the course BlackBoard page.

Lab Extra Credit (Total 12 points) = (Bonus Assignment /2)  + (Group Project/10)

Mastering A&P:  The average of the Lab MAP homework assignments will count for 20% of your final lab average. 

Final Lab Course Average  = (Lab Ex1 + Lab Ex2 + Lab Ex3 + Lab Ex4 + MAP average + Lab Extra Credit) / 5

No grades are dropped when calculating averages.

There are NO “re-takes” on any exam or quiz. Exams & quizzes that are not taken well be counted as “0”.

Instructor Policies

It is imperative that you check your email 2-3 times per week. Please check your spam or trash folder regularly.
You MUST use the Messages link from within the course when emailing me. If you wish to email me about a grade, you must email me from the "Message" link within the course website.

Attendance Policy Please note that some course material may not be accessible using a cell phone and/or tablet device. In this online class, there are no scheduled class "meeting times" and it is your responsibility to manage your schedule to include completion of course requirements as scheduled.

Handouts for all labs are posted on the course website. These contain information about the lab topic, indicate the sections of the lab workbook assigned for that lab, references to images posted on the course website, as well as questions over lab content. These lab handouts are designed to provide you guidance on what to study. They are not submitted for grading.


If you miss an exam because of an excused absence, your lowest lecture exam score will be used as the score for the exam that you missed. Excused absences include medical and family emergencies and are determined at the instructor's discretion. You can only miss one exam with an excused absence (excluding the final), and you must take the final exam.
Poor preparation, vacation, or conflict with other scheduled exams is not a valid excuse for missing an exam.

November 25, 2024 - Final day to drop a course or withdraw with academic penalty.

COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status. In addition, this policy requires all students to wear face coverings when directly exposed to COVID 19 in compliance with the criteria included in the policy. Facility Policies No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
